The Power of CONVERGE for Race Engine Development at Roush Yates Engines

To win NASCAR races and championships, Roush Yates Engines strives to have the industry's most powerful, efficient, and reliable engines. Working toward those goals, Roush Yates continuously utilizes CFD to improve their engines throughout the race season. At this webinar, guest speaker Jamie McNaughton, Technical Director at Roush Yates Engines, will discuss how his team uses CONVERGE in the design and development of their powertrain technology, including the intake manifolds, cylinder head ports, exhaust systems, intake systems, and engine cooling. He will highlight how they use CONVERGE to improve their engine's gas exchange process, primarily by addressing intake manifold flow losses, tuning the manifold, and modeling exhaust systems. CFD provides Roush Yates with a level of design detail that cannot be otherwise achieved, giving them advantages on the track.

Presented by:
Jamie McNaughton,

Technical Director, Roush Yates Engines

Jamie McNaughton serves as the Technical Director at Roush Yates Engines, where he leads the technical engineering and strategic direction for all powertrain programs. His expertise drives the design, development, and testing strategies for the NASCAR Ford FR9 V8 engine platforms used in both the NASCAR Cup and NASCAR Xfinity Series, in partnership with Ford Performance.

Under Jamie's leadership, Roush Yates Engines has won the last three NASCAR Cup Series Drivers and Owners Championships, marking the first consecutive 3-peat in Ford's 75-year history in NASCAR.

Beyond NASCAR, Jamie provides technical leadership and engineering to support Ford's high-performance lifestyle sports cars. With just 67 hand-built cars produced, the number pays homage to the original Mk IV's victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The car features a meticulously engineered twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine, delivering over 800 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of peak torque on 93-octane pump fuel.

Prior to joining Roush Yates Engines in 2013, Jamie he led the design and development of several production and race engine programs while working at Ford Motor Company and Harley-Davidson Motor Company, which took him around the world to Austria, Italy, Germany and India. With over 30 years of motorsports experience, Jamie is passionate about the challenges of competition, teamwork, and winning.

Jamie earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his master's degree from University of Wisconsin - Madison.
