This webinar presents recent experimental and numerical investigations carried out at IFPEN in collaboration with the industrial partner AMPERE and the academic laboratories Pprime and CORIA. The work employs a multiscale modeling strategy to improve the understanding and modeling of oil jet impingement cooling in the context of direct oil cooling of electric motors. The approach starts from canonical academic configurations, such as a liquid jet impinging on a heated flat plate, which are studied using high-fidelity simulations and dedicated experiments. These benchmark cases provide physical insight into the underlying flow and heat transfer mechanisms while serving as a basis for the development and validation of reduced-order near-wall models for high-Prandtl-number fluids. These models are then integrated into large-scale CFD simulations, enabling accurate predictions of heat transfer at a fraction of the computational cost of fully resolved simulations. The seminar will conclude with an application of this multiscale methodology to the simulation of a simplified, near-industrial end-winding cooling configuration representative of direct oil cooling in electric motors.
